An in-depth paper on a historical topic selected by the student in consultation with the professor, culminating in a formal oral presentation. The course develops skills in research, organization, synthesis, evaluation and presentation.

Astudy of the importance of this region in the ancient world, the development of Islam, the importance of oil during the age of imperialism, the conflict of religions and the establishment of Israel, modern religious warfare, and the emergence of terror as a major force in the region.

Prerequisite: HIS102. An intense study of the major developments in the African nations primarily since the 20th century. An introduction to the continent of Africa will include its importance in the ancient world and the impact of imperialism during the 1800's. The focus will then shift to the 1900's and the emergence of Africa in a modern world.

Prerequisite: HIS102. An intense study of the major developments in the Asian countries since the 19th century. Special emphasis will focus on the Communist revolutions in Russia and China, the Indian independence movement, post World War IIJapan, and the collapse of the former Soviet Union.

Acapstone course for social science/history majors, that surveys major trends in historiography and different historical methodologies. Students will demonstrate their ability to fill gaps in their content knowledge and to conduct historical research. Prerequisite: Junior/Senior standing and at least twelve hours of upper-divisioncoursework in history.

Germany, Hitler and the Holocaust focuses on the developments in Germany after World War I, the factors that led to the rise of Hitler, and the instigation of the Holocaust as World War IIbegan. Students will examine the cultural, economic, and political factors that led to Hitler's rise and to the extermination of the majority of Europe's Jewish population. Students will also focus on pedagogical approaches to the Holocaust, by examining teaching strategies appropriate to students of different ages, and developing knowledge of lesson plans and related materials that are available for use by teachers.

An introduction to the principles and practice of modern chemistry, with in-depth treatments of chemical stoichiometry, kinetic molecular theory, atomic (and nuclear) structure and periodicity, descriptive chemistry, chemical bonding, chemical equilibrium and solution equilibria, chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, electrochemistry and coordination chemistry. The laboratory integrates qualitative and quantitative skills, chemical instrumentation and laboratory projects, with emphasis on collection and analysis of data and their limitations.

Prerequisite: ENG102. This course introduces thoughts and values in art, literature, philosophy, and religion from the beginning of civilization through the time of the Roman Empire in the west and the civilizations of India and China in the east.
