An overview of the morphology, physiology, and taxonomy of representative groups of pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms. Emphasis is placed on applications to humans and techniques used in growing pure cultures of microorganisms on selected media. A brief preview on public health issues is also presented.   • The morphology, classification, growth, physiology, and genetics of Microorganisms are covered, with emphasis on bacteria. Control of bacterial growth with antibiotics, antiseptics, and disinfectants are also considered. Pathogenesis of disease┐causing bacteria and the role of the immune system in protection from disease are studied. This course satisfies the microbiology requirement for nursing schools.
