A program that prepares individuals to perform the duties of police and public security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control and public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management, basic crime prevention methods, weapon and equipment operation and maintenance, report preparation and other routine law enforcement responsibilities.

An introduction to a range of historical, political, and sociological problems in institutions vested with the responsibility to enforce laws, and/or preserve order. Emphasis is also placed on the study of the relationship between police and the communities in which they serve. Prerequisite: CJ 101

The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the subject of family violence, especially as it relates to the legal system in the United States. Topics include the historical roots of domestic violence, social science theoretical perspectives, the roles and the players, the typical prohibitions, the experience of victims who seek help from authorities, and efforts at developing prevention and intervention strategies. In this foundational Justice Studies course, students will learn about the justice system, its key components (policing, corrections, and the courts), and how it impacts society. The course empowers students to critically engage and appreciate the comprehensive nature of the Justice System.
