By offering in-depth study of selected cultures to illustrate general organizing principles of society, the course provides students with skills appropriate to the understanding of foreign cultures and our own. Topics surveyed include socialization; language; sex, age and kinship roles; religion and magic; marriage and the family; political and economic behavior; cultural change; and the arts.
