This course is a study of the structure of medical words and terms. Emphasis is placed on spelling and defining commonly used prefixes, suffixes, root words and their combining forms. Terminology related to a number of allied health occupations serves to acquaint students with an overview of health careers.

Students will gain an understanding of basic elements, rules of building and analyzing medical words, and medical terms associated with the body as a whole. Using a systems-approach, they will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to structure and function, pathology, diagnosis, and clinical procedures, oncology, and pharmacology.
