  • 3 credits This course introduces students to a variety of theoretical, analytical and critical means for approaching art, through the study of examples of art and architecture from different cultures and historical periods. Students learn to observe attentively, to describe thoroughly and to analyze critically through directed in-class discussions and writing assignments. Topics may include: analysis of period styles; interpreting subject matter and symbolism; examining the social functions of art and art-making in various historical times and cultures; and evaluating the role of the historian and critic. Students must earn a grade of C- or better in this course to enter Art History II. Prerequisites: Fulfills: Art History I Requirement

Credits awarded for incoming transfer courses will be determined when an official transfer evaluation is completed upon the receipt of official transcripts. Credits taken on a quarter system are adjusted for semester credit hour conversion. Total number of transfer credits awarded is dependent on the Wilmington University program of study and up to the 90 credit maximum.
