  • This cross-cultural course is one of the fundamental building blocks to understanding diversity in many different cultural and social contexts. We will discuss symbols and symbolic behavior, material culture, ethnicity, colonialism, gender roles, subsistence patterns, boundary markers and many facets of human adaptations through time and space. This course will also investigate issues of language in cultural and social context from a comparative perspective. Students will have the opportunity to conduct rudimentary ethnographic research in this course in order to provide them with the tools necessary for upper division courses in anthropology and other social science courses.
