Tsanacas This introductory class in investments is geared primarily for nonmajors. It combines basic investment theory with practical detail about financial markets and institutions. Particular attention is paid to the time value of money (compounding, discounting, and annuities), personal financial statements, equity and debt markets, mutual funds, options, real estate, and income tax. Open to first-year students. No prerequisite. Offered Term 1.

An introductory course analyzing the characteristics and relative importance of common and preferred stocks, mutual funds, municipal and corporate bonds, Treasury obligations, U.S. Government agency issues and real estate. Special topics including portfolio management, insurance and interest rates will also be covered.
