  • This course emphasizes the fundamental principles for air conditioning and refrigeration. Instruction is provided in theory and principles of refrigeration and heat transfer, HVAC/R system components, common, and specialty tools for HVAC/R, and application of the concepts of basic compression refrigeration. Upon completion, students should identify system components and understand their functions, identify and use common and specialty HVAC/R tools, and maintain components of a basic compression refrigeration system.   • Explores compressors, condensers, evaporators, metering devices and related components. Offers instruction in the proper use of tools and testing devices applicable to the refrigeration and air-conditioning trades and experimentation with refrigeration system training devices. Provides instruction and experience on piping layout and assembly. Provides students with practice at swaging, flaring, bending, soldering and brazing. Includes instruction on the design, construction, troubleshooting, service and repair of household refrigerators and freezers.
