  • 3 credits This studio-based course provides future art teachers an opportunity to work with the materials most often used with children, pre-K through 12 in classroom and community settings. Through in-class projects, a methods lab, written and studio assignments, students explore themes current in art education, including integrated learning, art and multi-cultural education and the development of critical and creative thinking as addressed in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks. As a part of this course students are required to do 15 hours of field experience observing art classes in a variety of settings. These 15 hours of field experience are applied toward the total 75 hours of pre-practicum experience required for Teacher Licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Prerequisites: Art Education I or Permission of Instructor Fulfills: Media, Forms and Ideas Requirement (Art Education Students) and Studio Elective

You may receive up to 3.00 credits at Weber State University:

  • This class prepares the art education candidate for teaching in the classroom, grades 7-12 and adaptable to K- 6. Experiences will include art activities, processes, materials, tools and resources, with the development and preparation of the accompanying curricula materials, lesson plans and assessments by the candidate. Curriculum aligns with State of Utah's core curriculum and national standards in the visual arts. Content will focus on the foundations of art education programming, including the art elements and design principles. In addition, this class will examine classroom management strategies and practices for the beginning teacher in the contemporary classroom. Art Education majors should have completed 40 credit hours; minors must have completed 12 credit hours. Prerequisite: (Recommended) Professional Core Level, College of Education, or permission of instructor. This course is required for secondary certification and is designed be taken prior to student teaching.
