Credits: 3; Prereq: ENC 1101 or test score equivalent. This course fulfills three hours of general education composition or humanities and the Writing requirement while introducing students to some of the major writers, issues and forms found in the history of American literature. An introduction to three major literary genres, fiction, poetry, and drama, drawn from a diverse range of authors from various cultures and historical periods. Students will learn how to read literary texts closely and critically, and how literature--reading more generally--can have a meaningful part of their daily lives. Course includes relevant practice in the principles of successful writing, including drafting, revising, and editing.
