An introduction to the fundamental principles, methods and purposes of accounting, this course provides a study of the accounting cycle for service and merchandising businesses, including the accounting for assets, liabilities and equity. Financial statements are also prepared, compared and analyzed with emphasis on using the statements. Analytical and decisionmaking abilities, as well as communication skills are emphasized. 3 hours lecture

Description: This course provides an introduction to the use of accounting information by managers to plan, control, and make decisions. Topics include cost accounting systems, cost-volume-profit analysis, budgetary planning, incremental analysis, and pricing. Notes: Offered in fall, spring and summer. Prerequisites: C- or better in CSCI 101B or 101E, ACCT 280 and MATH 151, 101, 105, or 201.
