Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum high school grade point average of 3.00 is required of transfer applicants (on a 4.0 scale). A minimum college grade point average of 2.5 is required of transfer applicants (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts from all institutions attended are required. An official copy of your high school transcript (or GED score report) if you have completed less than 24 transferable credits is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    Official SAT I or ACT scores are required if you graduated from high school or received a GED within the last three (3) years
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    An Academic Recommendation Letter (from a school-based counselor and/or teacher) is required.
  • Essay:
    All UMass Boston applicants are asked to submit a personal essay. It gives you the opportunity to present yourself in a way that grades and test scores cannot.
  • Application Fee:
    Application fee of $40 for in-state residents or $60 for out-of-state residents. This fee cannot be refunded. Please send a check or money order, made out to the University of Massachusetts - Boston.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required for admission consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    Describe other transfer credit policies: Students can no longer take courses at another institution once enrolled as a degree student without permission

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credit for courses must have been completed at regionally accredited institutions of higher education where the grade received was at least a C- (College of Nursing & Health Sciences requires at least a C+).
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 90 credits can be transferred from four-year institutions. No more than 70 credits may be transferred from community colleges.
