Welcome to the University of the Incarnate Word, a Catholic institution that provides students with a top-notch educational experience by fostering excellence in a context of faith. We offer more than 90 undergraduate and graduate fields of study through the PhD. Among them are programs in 3D Animation and Gaming, Broadcast Meteorology, Fashion and Business in addition to a nursing program that is the oldest west of the Mississippi River. We feature small classes for an optimal learning environment; professors who know their students by name; opportunities to participate in over 90 clubs and organizations; and most importantly, spiritual growth and awareness by living the Mission of the University.

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    UIW offers a variety of financial aid options including loans, grants and scholarships. 99% of first time freshman received financial assistance in 2019-2020. Scholarships are available up to $15,000 annually for transfer students, renewable for to four years when eligibility is maintained. Completed undergraduate student applicants are automatically reviewed for scholarships. Community college students in Phi Theta Kappa are also eligible for an additional $2,000 scholarship.

    UIW accepts transfer students with a 2.5 GPA and higher although some programs have additional requirements. We require official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities.

  • Transfer Agreements:
    The UIW Registrar has transfer articulation agreements with Alamo Community Colleges and agreements with several other universities. UIW accepts credits from regionally accredited universities. Contact admissions for a transcript review.

  • Degree Completion Programs:
    The School of Professional Studies hosts the UIW degree completion programs in both online and classroom formats with nine bachelor's degrees and three associate degrees.
  • Technical/Vocation Credit Accepted:
    Vocation and technical credits can be accepted in the degree completion degree of the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences with 18 credit hours in a single discipline. Other credits with ACE credit may be accepted up to 30 hours in some programs.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Applicants are advised to have at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for unconditional admission. Students may be admitted with less than a 2.5 GPA on the recommendation of the Admissions Committee.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Request official transcripts from every college/university you have attended. Applicants who have earned less than 24 semester hours must submit an official high school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    Applicants with fewer than 24 transferable hours of college credit must submit high school transcripts.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    The submission of letters of recommendation is not required.
  • Essay:
    UIW does not publish a requirement for an essay, nor does it ask for one with your application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a no application fee.
  • Interview:
    An interview with an admissions counselor and a visit to the campus are strongly encouraged, but not required.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    All courses completed with a grade of C or higher that are normally considered part of a bachelor degree program will transfer to the University of the Incarnate Word.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    UIW does not publish minimum/maximum credit requirements for transfer.
