Each year the University enrolls transfer students who want to be more than just a social security number at a large college or who want to pursue a value-centered education at a school known for its outstanding teachers and high academic standards. Transfers are accepted from community colleges, state universities, and other private colleges. Most transfer students may apply for admission for fall, spring, or summer semesters at the University of Portland. Admission to the School of Nursing for transfer students is not available in the summer semester.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum college grade point average of 2.5 is required of transfer applicants.
  • Official Transcripts:
    A transfer applicant that has less then 30 credits will be required to submit their official high school transcripts. Any transfer applicant is required to submit their previously attended institutions official transcripts.
  • SAT Scores:
    A transfer applicant that has less then 30 credits will be required to submit their ACT/SAT scores for admission consideration.
  • Essay:
    An essay is required of for education and nursing majors.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $50 Application Fee (make checks payable to the University of Portland).
  • Interview:
    An interview is only required of some applicants, you will be notified if it is necessary.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is C.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    UP will accept 60 credits from a 2-year institution, 90 from a 4-year. You must earn 30 credits in residence at UP to receive a bachelor's degree.
