  • Accepts Transfers:
    UNCW accepts transfer students in the summer, fall, and spring semesters. The priority deadline for the summer and fall terms is March 1 and the priority deadline for the spring term is October 15.
  • Transfer Applications Received:
    UNCW receives approximately 5,000 transfer applications per year.
  • Transfer Applications Accepted:
    UNCW admits approximately 3,500 transfer students per year.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    UNCW uses a holistic approach to review transfer applications and will consider several aspects of the application in making a decision. Applicants are recommended to have at least 24 transferable credit hours and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants have a higher likelihood of gaining admission if they have also completed or are currently taking college-level math and college-level english.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Have all official transcripts mailed to the Office of Admissions directly from the colleges and universities you have attended and have an official high school transcript (or your G.E.D. scores if applicable) sent to the Office of Admissions.
  • SAT Scores:
    Standardized test scores are only required for transfer students if applying with less than 24 transferable credit hours complete or in progress.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Letters of recommendation are not required but can be submitted.
  • Essay:
    The essay on the application is optional for transfer students.
  • Application Fee:
    $80 (non-refundable)
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required for admission consideration.
  • Associates Degree Required:
    The Associates Degree is not required for transfer admission.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credit earned at another institution with a grade of “C” (2.00) or better is accepted by the university if the work transferred is comparable to offerings at UNCW. UNCW will only accept credit from regionally accredited institutions.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    UNCW will accept a maximum of 90 hours of credit from a four-year institution and 64 hours of credit from a two-year institution.

  • Transfer Agreements:
    UNCW participates in several articulation agreements, governing the transfer of students and courses from N.C. community colleges to UNC institutions and UNCW’s bilateral articulation agreements with 16 N.C. community colleges.
