    It is recommended that students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), regardless of their family financial status. Information submitted on the FAFSA determines the amount of financial aid each student is eligible to receive from grants, scholarships, work-study and loans. UMKC offers financial aid and scholarships specifically for transfer students that can help ease the cost of the remaining credits needed to complete your degree.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    For students with 24 or more transferable college credit hours, admission decisions are based on a student's cumulative transfer GPA. Some academic units and programs require a different cumulative GPA for an admission decision. Transfer students without a 2.0 or higher college GPA must submit a petition for admission.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official college transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required. Transfer students with 24 or more college credits do not need to share their high school information or transcript when submitting the application.
  • SAT Scores:
    Students with fewer than 24 credit hours of transferable college credit must send in official ACT or SAT scores.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement may be required by some programs or majors.
  • Application Fee:
    A $45 nonrefundable application fee will be collected at the time of application. Students with proof of financial need/hardship will be considered for a fee waiver.
  • Interview:
    An interview may be required by some programs or majors.
  • Other Requirements:
    Documents for permanent residents, refugees, political asylees and DACA students are required.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is D.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The maximum credits that may be transferred is 90. You must complete a minimum of 30 credits at UMKC to earn a bachelor's degree.
