The 10th campus in the prestigious University of California system, UC Merced is diverse, growing and committed to those ideals that serve the state, nation and world through research, education and public service. UC Merced is the first new American research university in the 21st century, with a mission of research, teaching and service. The campus opened September 5, 2005, in the Central Valley of California. The university is about an hour north of Fresno, two hours south of Sacramento, two hours southeast of San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, and 90 minutes west of Yosemite National Park.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    There is a minimum GPA requirement of 2.4 for California residents, and 2.8 for non-residents.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary schools is required. If you have fewer than 60 transferable semester credits, your high school transcripts are required.
  • SAT Scores:
    You must submit official SAT/ACT test scores if you have fewer than 60 transferable semester credits.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement is required with the application.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    You must complete a seven (7) course pattern , earning a grade of C or better in each course: 2 English Comp; 1 Math Concepts/Quantitative Reasoning; 4 of Arts/Humanities, Behavioral/Social Sciences, Biological/Physical Sciences.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is D.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    The maximum credits accepted for transfer credit are 70 semester units. You must earn 24 of your last 36 credits at Merced to receive a bachelor's degree.
