Students close to completing the requirements for the associate degree are encouraged to consider the potential advantages of completing the associate degree. One way to accomplish this is to transfer courses taken at SHSU back to the community college to complete degree requirements. Properly selected courses may be used to satisfy degree requirements at both institutions simultaneously. The applicant is encouraged to speak to an academic advisor familiar with the programs of all institutions involved to maximize the amount of transferable credit. Sample Transfer Hour Calculation: All transfer credit hours for the BAAS are determined by a BAAS transfer guidance counselor at SHSU. Please use the following as a guide. Assume a student has completed the BAAS consisting of 60 hours with 50 hours in the technical specialty and 10 hours in general core courses. SHSU will transfer the 36-48 hours of technical courses, i.e., the major at SHSU. The remaining 10 hours in the general core will also transfer for a total of 46-58 hours towards the BAAS. If desired, a student may complete an additional 20 hours (66-46 = 20) of core courses at the community college for a total transfer of a maximum of 66 academic credits to SHSU towards the BAAS degree. SHSU transfers a maximum of 66 hours in course work, excluding Kinesiology, towards degree programs from junior colleges, community colleges, and technical colleges. SHSU courses with 300 and 400 level numbers are considered as upper division and must be completed at SHSU. Credit may not be transferred from a community college for upper division courses.
