A public, 4-year residential college located in the lush mountains of southwestern Virginia, The University of Virginia's College at Wise is recognized as one of the top public liberal arts colleges in the nation. The only branch campus of the University of Virginia, UVa-Wise was founded in 1954 and currently enrolls 2,000students. UVa-Wise is home to Virginia’s only undergraduate degree program in software engineering. UVa-Wise offers 30 majors, 32 minors, seven pre-professional programs and more than 20 teaching licensures.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    You must have an overall grade point average of 2.2. Applicants who have less than a 2.2 grade point average but at least a 2.0 are reviewed by the Admissions Committee, and if admitted, may be subject to provisional status.
  • Official Transcripts:
    You are required to submit official transcripts from all colleges previously attended. High school transcripts are required if you are transferring less that 30 hours.
  • SAT Scores:
    You must submit official SAT/ACT scores if you are transferring less than 30 hours. Students older than 25 do not need to submit SAT scores.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Optional.a
  • Essay:
    To supplement the information supplied by your academic records, you are strongly encouraged to provide a Statement of Educational Goals. Please write a short essay on a separate sheet and include with your Application for Admission.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a nonrefundable $25 application fee. Those students applying under one of the Guaranteed Admissions Programs will have the application fee waived.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Transfer credit will be awarded for grades of C- or better or CR for courses designated credit/no credit.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 62 semester hours earned from a two-year college may be counted toward graduation at UVa-Wise.
