Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1969 as an upper level university offering junior, senior, and graduate level programs, UT Permian Basin achieved four-year status and began offering freshman level classes in September of 1991. The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and masters degrees. Our mission is to provide quality education to all qualified students in a supportive educational environment; to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service; and to serve as a resource for the intellectual, social, economic, and technological advancement of the diverse constituency in Texas and the region.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Transfer Students with 24 or more semester hours of college work must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (C) on a 4.0 grading system.
  • Official Transcripts:
    UTPB requires the submission of official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. If you have fewer than 24 transferable credits, you must apply as a freshman and submit your official high school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    If you have fewer than 24 transferable credits, you must apply as a freshman and submit your official SAT/ACT scores.
  • Essay:
    An essay is not required.
  • Application Fee:
    There is no fee to apply.
  • Interview:
    UTPB does not require an interview.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    D grades may be included in the total number of credit hours to be accepted for transfer to U.T. Permian Basin. However, D grades will not be accepted to fulfill the requirements of a major, minor or any General Education requirement.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    There is no limit to the number of credit hours that may be transferred. Students must complete a total of 54 hours of upper level credit and at least 30 of them must be taken at UTPB to earn a degree.
