The New School launches economists, actors, fashion designers, urban planners, dancers, anthropologists, orchestra conductors, filmmakers, political scientists, organizational experts, jazz musicians, scholars, psychologists, historians, journalists, and above all, world citizens-individuals whose ideas and innovations forge new paths of progress. In addition to its 88 graduate and undergraduate degree programs and majors, we offer certificate programs and over 650 continuing ed courses to more than 6,350 adult learners yearly.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    The New School does not publish a minimum GPA requirement for transfer.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official transcripts must be provided from every college or university attended at the time of application, in addition to official high school transcripts.
  • SAT Scores:
    The New School does not publish a requirement for the submission of standardized test scores for admission consideration.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    A sealed letter of recommendation is optional.
  • Essay:
    The New School requires the submission of 3 essays with your application: Educational Objective, New Way of Thinking and Course Plan.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
  • Interview:
    Some programs of study may require an interview or audition for admission consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    Some programs of study may require a portfolio for admission consideration.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    To be accepted for transfer, the credits must have been earned in courses consistent with the mission of The New School Bachelor's Program and for which grades of C or better were awarded.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Up to 84 credits may be transferred for courses completed at a regionally-accredited college or university. Of those, no more than 60 may be for lower-level coursework.
