  • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    The role of the Financial Aid Office at New England Conservatory is to offer assistance to current and prospective students with regard to financing their education. The NEC Financial Aid staff is committed to providing students with the information needed to make informed decisions about financing programs at NEC.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    There is an expected minimum overall academic grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) for transfer admission consideration.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Transfer applicants must submit transcripts from all colleges attended. Transfer applicants who have earned fewer than 32 college credits at the time of their application must also submit official transcripts from their high school.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT and ACT scores are not required and do not factor into our admission decision.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    2 letters are required. An artistic recommendation from your private studio teacher addressing your readiness to study at a conservatory level, and an academic recommendation from a non-music teacher addressing your writing/cognitive skills.
  • Essay:
    Transfer applicants should include a written statement in the appropriate section of the online application explaining the reasons they wish to transfer from their present institution to NEC.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a application fee of $115 U.S.
  • Interview:
    You will have to submit a prescreening recording, if required for your major or degree/diploma.
  • Other Requirements:
    Transfer applicants must also submit the NEC Transfer Release Form signed by the music executive of their current school. All applicants must submit an Artistic Resume. Applicants must submit a Repertoire List.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credits transfer with grades of C or better, provided that the work compares to NEC courses, as determined by each department.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    NEC will accept a maximum of 60 semester hours toward the Bachelor of Music degree, or 36 semester hours toward the Undergraduate Diploma. Please refer to the Transfer Policy Document linked below for info about specific departments.
