    Transfer students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for merit scholarships. Syracuse University offers merit scholarships up to $6000 for transfer students. Students are automatically considered with application.

Information for Transfer In Students

  • Accepts Transfers:
    Transfer students add to the richness of our diverse student body. Syracuse considers you a transfer student if you earned a high school diploma/GED, enrolled in a degree program at another college, and completed at least 12 credit hours.
  • Transfer Applicants Enrolled:
    Approximately 350 new transfer students join us each fall, and 150 in the in the spring.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Applicants to SU are very different from one another, presenting a variety of academic and extracurricular activities. Your admission to Syracuse University is based on many factors, not only your GPA. Students can apply as transfers regardless of the number of college credits they have already completed.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Transfer students are evaluated primarily on the basis of their college-level work. If you have completed fewer than 30 credits of college-level academic coursework, you must also submit an official copy of your high school transcript.
  • SAT Scores:
    If you have completed fewer than 30 credits of college-level academic coursework, you must also submit the results of your SAT or ACT examinations.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Two Academic Recommendations from professors who are able to assess your capabilities are required.
  • Essay:
    A 250-500 word personal essay is required. If you have not already done so in your personal essay, please provide information on your college-level class experience and why you are applying as a transfer student.
  • Application Fee:
    $70 nonrefundable fee must be submitted with the application.
  • Interview:
    While not required, you may have an interview with a member of the Admissions Committee.
  • Other Requirements:
    Additional requirements, including application deadlines, prerequisites and portfolio reviews, vary by program.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In general, transfer credit is allowed for courses worth three or more credits where you earned a "C" (2.0) or higher and for which there is a comparable course offered at Syracuse University.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    SU will accept up to 66 credits from a two-year college and 90 credits from a four-year institution.
