Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    The minimum GPA requirement for transfer admission consideration is a 2.0; however a 2.7 is recommended.
  • Official Transcripts:
    The submission of all official college level transcripts and official high school transcripts is required.
  • SAT Scores:
    The submission of official ACT or SAT test scores is optional.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Recommendation letters are recommended for scholarship consideration.
  • Essay:
    An essay is required if you have fewer than 30 transferable credits. It is recommended of all for scholarship consideration.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $60 application fee.
  • Interview:
    An interview is not required.
  • Other Requirements:
    An extracurricular resume is recommended for scholarship consideration. There audition and portfolio requirements for students applying for Dance, Music, Theatre, Art, or Film.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Courses with a grade below a "C-" are not accepted for transfer credit. (Although the course is non-transferable, the grade received below a C- will count towards a student’s admission eligibility and is calculated into his/her all-college GPA.)
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    You must earn 60 credits in residence at Southern Methodist to receive your bachelor's degree.
