Welcome to Southern Connecticut State University, a flourishing community of more than 12,000 students located less than three miles from downtown New Haven, near the artsy and historic Westville Village section of the city. Founded as a teachers college in 1893, Southern has evolved into a comprehensive university offering 115 graduate and undergraduate programs.     Welcome to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Familiarize yourself with our website and learn about the financial aid process, various types of aid, important processing dates, and much more. Your financial aid award will assist you in paying for your education, but it does not always cover the entire cost of attendance. Therefore, it is important to have a plan in place to pay the balance of your bill if you do not have enough financial aid.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Students wishing to transfer from other accredited institutions of higher learning must have a 2.0 cumulative average.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Submit official transcripts of your previous college work AND an official copy of your high school transcript, high school diploma OR GED.
  • SAT Scores:
    High school transcripts and SAT scores are only required for students who have not completed 24 transferable college credits.
  • Essay:
    An essay or personal statement may be required of some applicants.
  • Application Fee:
    Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee.
  • Other Requirements:
    Students should also be prepared to provide catalogs from the colleges they previously attended.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Credits from all regionally accredited universities are eligible for transfer review. A grade of “C-” or better is required for transfer.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 90 credits will be accepted from four-year institutions and 63 credits from two-year institutions. You must earn 30 credits at Southern Connecticut to receive your bachelor's degree.
