The School of Mines has a proud and long-standing heritage of excellence in preparing graduates to serve as leaders in engineering and science. Founded in 1885, the School of Mines was established to meet the growing research needs of the mining industry, led by the Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota. We are now an elite technological university offering 37 baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs with 2,350 talented and motivated students engaged in challenging and exciting academic programs. Online degrees are available, including professional master’s programs in construction management, engineering management, and mining engineering. We believe the role of engineers and scientists is crucial to the advancement of society.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Transfer students with 24 or more semester credits are eligible candidates for admission if they have a cumulative college grade point average of 2.75 or higher, and are in good standing with their most recently attended school. Students with less than a 2.75 GPA may be admitted on probation, but each applicant is considered on an individual basis.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Transfer students must send an official transcript from each post-secondary institution attended. Transfer students under the age of 24 who have earned fewer than 24 semester credits must also submit official high school transcripts.
  • SAT Scores:
    Transfer students under the age of 24 who have earned fewer than 24 semester credits must also submit SAT or ACT scores.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $20 application fee.
