Known familiarly as “Sewanee” by its students, faculty, staff and friends, The University of the South offers an unmatched educational experience. The university remains purposefully small and dedicated to building a sense of community. All classes are taught by professors, not graduate teaching assistants, and close faculty-student interaction ensures that each student enjoys a rich and personal educational experience. Scholarships and Financial Aid:

Due to the fact that all available funds are allocated to students who matriculate in the fall, need based funds are not always available for students entering in January. If you would like to be considered for financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (931) 598-1312.

A student is considered a transfer student if he/she is a high school graduate who has completed college coursework for credits since graduating from high school and before the expected date of entry into Sewanee.

Transfer Application Requirements

Minimum GPA:

A cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 (B) or above on a 4.0 scale is required for transfer admission consideration.
Official Transcripts:

Official transcripts from all colleges attended are required, as well as your official final high school transcript.
SAT Scores:

Official SAT or ACT scores are required.
Letters of Recommendation:

A recommendation from a College Instructor is required.
Essay:

A Statement of Reasons for Transferring is required.
Application Fee:

The Application fee is waived if apply online via the Common Application.
Interview:

While an interview is not required, it is strongly recommended. We encourage you to take every opportunity to learn more about the University.
Other Requirements:

A Statement of Good Standing from your previous institution is required.

Transfer Credit Policy

Minimum Grade:

Academic work, with a grade of C or above, from other institutions is generally accepted for credit hours only. (No credit will be accepted for a grade of C minus or lower).
Credits (Min/Max):

As each degree-seeking student must earn at least sixty-four semester hours of credit at Sewanee, transfer credit is limited to sixty-four semester hours.
