The beautiful main campus sits on 160 acres atop a hill northeast of Great Bend about two miles. Barton also boasts the Camp Aldrich Conference Center, which sits on 290 acres of rolling hills and grassland north of Cheyenne Bottoms. The camp consists of 13 buildings, an outdoor pool and a 40-acre wilderness area and is available to rent for groups, company retreats and family reunions. It was recently opened to bow hunters as well. The Dining Hall burned down in the spring of 2014. The current plan is to rebuild and re-open in the summer of 2015. Barton Community College is a comprehensive community college located in Central Kansas serving Rice, Rush, Ellsworth, Stafford, Pawnee, Ellis and Barton Counties.

Founded in 1855 as the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, Berea charges no tuition and admits only academically promising students, primarily from Appalachia, who have limited economic resources.
