A philosophical investigation of different theories of language and meaning, addressing such issues as the conveyance of cognitive, emotive, and evaluative meaning by linguistic and nonlinguistic means, the manner of formation and means of analysis proper to each type of meaning, and the efficacy of meaning within the context of originator and interpreter. Prerequisite: One second-level PHI course other than 220, or B+ or higher earned in one first-level PHI course.

[3] This course will introduce students who plan to major in business to a variety of mathematical and statistical techniques that can be applied to problem solving and decision making in the business world. Topics include applications of linear functions to business; optimization; probability concepts, techniques, and applications; data collection, display and descriptive statistics; and covariance, correlation, and regression. Prerequisite: MAB 111.

This course provides the necessary skills to understand the role of statistics in business decision making. Topics include a review of basic mathematics relevant in business, and linear and nonlinear applications of quantitative techniques and optimization procedures. Data analysis, probability, random variables, binomial probability distribution, the role of expected values in decision making in business are also covered. Excel and other statistical software are used for problem solving. Prerequisite: M110. Laboratory fee.

This course presents concepts related to ionizing radiation, including the basic physics of radionuclides and the biologic effects of interaction of radiation with matter. Other topics include structural shielding requirements, NRCP guidelines, personal monitoring considerations, radiation units and measures, as well as the basics of radiation safety. Prerequisites: BIO 112, 113, PHY 102, and permission of instructor.

A comprehensive introduction into the field of diagnostic imaging. The student is introduced to the hospital environment. Professional responsibilities as a member of the health care team are discussed in medical ethics. Medical terminology is introduced to enable the student to analyze the patient's clinical history.
