This course examines the scientific approach to the problem of dealing with risks that companies face today. Students will learn to develop comprehensive risk-management plans incorporating identification, control, and financing of all corporate risks. Risk-management tools covered include loss control, insurance, captives, options, swaps, and futures/forward contracts. Emphasis is given to today's global marketplace and the risks faced by multinational firms. Since risk management is usually a multidisciplinary team effort, all assignments and class discussions will involve teamwork.

This course fulfills the required internship for students majoring in insurance/finance. Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, students will gain field experience with a for-profit or notfor- profit organization. Prerequisites: BAR 210, INS 210 or 322 or 324, junior status, departmental approval, and cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Capitol Winds is a symphonic band comprising students from the University of Hartford as well as members of the Greater Hartford community. The group plays standard band literature written by such composers as Holst, Grainger, Shostakovich, and Milhaud and has premiered works by Hartt composers. The band presents on-campus concerts as well as special concerts in the Hartford area. Two hours weekly.

An ensemble of homogeneous instruments that performs music composed for trombones as well as appropriate transcriptions. Repertoire from different periods and styles for four to 12 trombones is investigated. Students have the opportunity to play lead, bottom, and inner parts as well as alto and bass trombone. By permission of instructor only.

Study of current international events, developments, and trends. Viewed from global, comparative, and multidisciplinary perspectives, topics include ethnicity and cultural diversity, art, music, literature, theater, cinema, religion, and political and economic events. Prerequisites vary by topic.

An extension of and requisite to individual studio lessons. A laboratory environment for students to practice and demonstrate those skills developed in lessons. Students perform for each other, work in small groups, and engage in common activities beneficial to a particular homogeneous instrumental grouping.
