    Visual Basic-Level I Prerequisite: Some understanding of programming concepts and a working knowledge of Windows 95/98. Notes: None In this course students will learn how easy it is to create a simole Visual Basic Application and learn the basic elements needed to us a RAD (Rapid Applications Development) tool language. In this course students will see how to create GUI's (Graphic User Interfaces). The student will learn to assemble the components of a Visual Basic Application, use ActiveX Controls, distinguish between event-driven and procedural programming, create forms and menus, manipulate form and control properties, compile an application with a native code compiler and handle run-time errors. Students will also learn how to create hotspots and hyperlinks, slice images, add behaviors, and use other advanced program features. Students will spend time igrating Fireworks data into FrontPage websites.     Page Design, Site Management, and JavaScript Essentials Prerequisite:None Two textbooks are recommended for this course; both are available at the ECSU bookstore. You will learn how to plan a website and organize your source materials. Next, you will then learn how to use Microsoft FrontPage 2003 to create professional quality sites. If you learn to use FrontPage like a professional, you will gain the advantage of the ease of use that FrontPage provides without getting that "amateur" look to which the misuse of FrontPage can lead. You will learn how to correctly use FrontPage and you will also learn how to create a website from scratch using a variety of tools, including basic principles of HTML and JavaScript (this is not a programming course). You will incorporate pre-written scripts into your work that enable client-side features in your sites. The Page Design, Site Management, and JavaScript Essentials course teaches you how to plan, create, and assemble a website, but not integrate graphics with your design. This course meets the need to incorporate professional graphics, optimized for fast web performance, into your website. You will learn how to use Macromedia Fireworks MX. Unlike numerous graphics packages that are designed for print graphics, Fireworks is designed for the web. You will learn how to create and optimize web graphics. You will also learn how to work with objects, fills, strokes, effects, text, bitmap graphics, optimization, and importing graphics into FrontPage. The second week of the course focuses on advanced features such as creating sliced images, website navigation bars with rollover effects, and basic animations. You will then spend time migrating Fireworks navigation bars into websites. Web pages that incorporate the principles of design stand out from the millions of poorly designed websites on the Internet. You will learn about numerous concepts, from basic graphics formats to streaming media. You will also learn about what good design is, about the appropriate use of graphics and text, layout, the choice of fonts, Meta-tags, and other features. You will learn about keys to site usability, navigation, and techniques to keep pages fast-loading.
