    Drugs & Society Prerequisites: None The purpose of this course is to critically examine drugs and drug use from a sociological perspective. Topics include the effects of drugs, theories of drug use, consequences of drug use, and the historical evolution of American drug laws and attitudes toward drugs. Attention will also be given to the social construction of drug scares, as we examine how various social instutions (e.g., mass media, polity, economy, science) contribute to public and legal definition of drugs.
