Theatre doesn't need theaters. It can and should happen anywhere and everywhere. Practicum aims to investigate, develop, and present, via an overview of site specific performance history and practice, any type of performance work wherever is appropriate, exploring both the performance work and the space in which it is presented. Practical implementation of technology in contemporary performance production. Critical analysis of the history of technology and interactivity in performance. Creation of original performance work using a variety of media within a variety of venues: video, animation, sound, music, dance, theatre, storytelling, spoken-word, and/or any representation of self or virtual self. Rise of the avant-garde, performance art, guerrilla theatre, GLBT performance, race relations, and the feminist aesthetic. American postwar classics, voices of protest (Baraka, Beck/Malina, Handke), Third World drama (Soyinka), and feminist playwrights (Norman, Henley) may be considered.
