Clinical instruction at an acute care facility, under the direction and supervision of an instructor. Nursing care of adult patients in the hospital/clinical setting. Utilization of the nursing process as a framework for providing care to patients withmusculoskeletal, genitourinary, integumentary, and gastrointestinal disorders. Corequisite: Nursing: Vocational 405. Discussion, demonstration, and application of the nursing process and developmental theory to the care of adult patients with diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal, integumentary, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal systems in the clinical setting. 1230.20

Concepts, principles, and advanced skills of the nursing process - based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs - tomeet all needs in emergency conditions, and threats involving the respiratory and endocrine systems. Leadership focus on patient teaching, reporting status of assigned group of patients, and verification and follow through of physician's orders. Study of psychosocial influences and their application to effective communication with patients. Field trips may be a required part of this course. 1230.20

Concepts, principles, and advanced skills of the nursing process - based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs - to meet threats to the cardiovascular, digestive, and pulmonary systems and accessory organs of digestion. Leadership focus on patient teaching, reporting status of assigned group of patients, and verification and follow through of physician's orders. Study of psycho-social influences and their application to effective communication with patients. Recognition of alterations to patient's mind and body functioning due to substance abuse and specific mental disorders. Field trips may be a required part of this course. 1230.20

Concepts, principles, and advanced skills of the nursing process to meet threats and provide care to patients with musculo-skeletal, neurological, urinary, reproductive, blood dyscrasias, and visual or auditory problems. Leadership focus on the skills required in assuming the role and responsibilities of charge nurse for a group of patients. 1230.20

Discussion, demonstration, and application of developmental theory and the nursing process to meet the needs of patients in live acute-care clinical situations. Students identify threats and care for the needs of patients with musculo-skeletal, neurological, urinary, reproductive, blood dyscrasias, and visual or auditory problems, with minimal observation and supervision by an instructor and facility staff. Primary focus is the integration and prioritization of all components of the nursing process in the care of medical-surgical patients, in the role of charge nurse. 1230.20
