3 FA Examination and analysis of the economic, social, and political status of Chicanos and Chicanas in the United States. Examines social characteristics and changes that have occurred since the Chicano Movement of the 1960s in areas such as immigration, demographics, stratification, educational attainment, and labor market participation.

3 INQ ARTS 101 and ARTS 102 for art majors. A survey of Mexican art and culture from the Cortesian Conquest, the Colonial Period of monastery- and church-building, the Revolution of 1810, the Revolution of 1910, and the painters of the great revolutionary mural movement that followed, Rivera, Orozco, and Siqueriros, to contemporary artists who have tended toward international pluralism. Attention is given to the process of acculturation that produced the modern Mexican peoples, their national character, and their contemporary art.

3 INQ SPAN 301; SPAN 341 or SPAN 342; or faculty permission. A study of the Chicano people as reflected in selected films and literature. Discussions will be in Spanish, readings in English and Spanish, reports in Spanish.

3 INQ CHST 157 or SOCI 100. A study of Chicanos and Chicanas, using individual and structural frameworks, and making social and cultural comparisons among Chicanos, Mexicans, and Latinos. Examines the impact of these social groups on the United States, and compares Chicano, Mexican, and Latino communities with other ethnic groups.

2 FA An overview of the history, career opportunities, job functions, and professional organizaitons in the concrete industry. Students are introduced to the Concrete Industry Management curriculum, its instructional expectations and methodologies.

4 FA CIMT 101, CHEM 107, MATH 105, PHYS 202A. Effects of concrete-making materials (aggregates, cements, admixtures, etc.) on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete. Concrete mixture proportioning calculations and statistical analysis of strength tests are also studied.

3 SP CIMT 231, CIVL 110. Forming, shoring, placing, and reinforcing operations. Transporting, placing, consolidating, finishing, jointing, and curing concrete for cast-in-place foundations, pavements, on-ground slabs, structural frames, and other structural members are studied. Other topics include waterproofing concrete foundations and erecting precast concrete members. 2.0 hours discussion, 3.0 hours laboratory.

3 INQ This course provides an understanding of historic concrete building practices leading to informed evaluation and repair of older structures for reuse. The causes of service failures, including material failure, improper design, maintenance failure, and environmental effects are studied. The presentation of case studies in failure analysis and repair approaches occur throughout the course, along with participation in ongoing, long-term studies of repair systems. 2.0 hours discussion, 3.0 hours laboratory.
