3.00 Credits
Introduces unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and their applications within the fields of environmental, geographical and geological sciences. Course topics include operations with fixed-wing and rotor-based unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), hardware/software command and control systems, geographic information system (GIS) analysis, the basics of flight, regulations, and safety. Students will gain hands-on experience in design and execution of UAV operations to acquire and process aerial imagery and video.
Prerequisite:
EGGS360 OR EGG360 OR GEG2200 OR GEG2200L OR GESC213
-
3.00 Credits
Explores the historical development of emergency management and important contemporary policies guiding emergency management practice at the local, national, and international levels. The four phases of emergency management (preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation) and the key roles of individuals, agencies, and organizations involved in emergency management are examined. A field trip may be required.
Prerequisite:
EGGS107
-
3.00 Credits
Examines the development of the basic principles of geostatistics and its practical applications in the geosciences. Students will inventory, quantify, and simulate spatial and temporal patterns for multi-disciplinary analysis, and develop an understanding of the geostatistical toolsets available for descriptive and inferential analysis of geoscience phenomena. Course utilizes ArcGIS and various software to visualize and explore these spatial data.
Prerequisite:
STAT141
-
3.00 Credits
Presents the development of skills and techniques used in analysis, plan preparation, goal setting, and implementation of urban and regional planning processes and activities.
Prerequisite:
EGGS250
-
3.00 Credits
Covers many of the basic techniques that are used in the collection, analysis and presentation of geologic field data. The course encompasses elements of structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geophysics in an applied context. A large portion of the course content is presented through field-based exercises.
Prerequisite:
EGGS120
-
3.00 Credits
Examines the geography and history of conservation and preservation in the United States with an emphasis on environmental, conservation, and preservation movements, natural resource problems, public policy and contemporary techniques. A field trip may be required.
-
3.00 Credits
Introduces computer assisted analysis geographic data. Spatial data structures, geographic data files, database management, spatial analysis and cartographic design are emphasized. Provides practical experience in GIS through exercises and class activities.
Prerequisite:
EGGS242 OR EGG242 OR GEOS2821
-
3.00 Credits
Provides an intermediate overview of the design and function of geographic information systems (GIS). GIS software design, data models, data creation and management, raster and vector analysis, and workflow automation are emphasized. Provides practical experience in GIS through computer-based exercises and class activities.
Prerequisite:
EGGS242 AND EGGS360 OR EGG242 OR EGG360 OR GEG2200 OR GEG2200L OR GEOS2821 OR GESC213
-
3.00 Credits
Explores the design and production of maps and other information graphics both from theoretical and applied aspects. Areas of emphasis are data collection, analysis, digital mapping software, communication through cartographic design, and the social implications of mapmaking. Students will select appropriate mappable data and use it to design effective maps using professional techniques.
Prerequisite:
EGGS360
-
1.00 - 2.00 Credits
Studies processes and agents which erode, transport and deposit sediments. Examines the features of sedimentary rocks that are used to make environmental and climatic interpretations, and the techniques used to put strata in context of time and space and the geologic interpretation of the resulting rocks. Field trips will be required as part of this course.
Prerequisite:
EGGS130 OR EGG130 OR GEL3322 OR GESC131
