Designed to be an introduction to theories and practices in Alternative Education. An array of topics is explored to bring research, theories and practice together in a meaningful format. The inquiry nature of this course will serve as foundational for graduate students working in at-risk student settings. Emphasis is placed upon the practical application of theories in the classroom, best practices and characteristics effective programs.

Designed to promote graduate student mastery of theory and practice related to cognition, motivation, and social skills. Specifically, students explore various aspects of cognition, learning styles, motivation, and social skills research and the practical uses of these concepts with students in the classroom.

Focusing on a self-selected, instructor-approved, project, readings, or reflective practice case study in education. Graduate students: 1) identify a curriculum, instruction, staff development, classroom management, or leadership problem and design a project to investigate that problem; or, 2) summarize and analyze scholarly writings in curriculum, instruction, instruction, classroom management, leadership, or other related areas of education; or, 3) identify a curriculum, instruction, classroom management, leadership issue, to plan and construct an inquiry regarding the issue.

An intensive approach to alternative education issues and practices designed to explore specialized knowledge and skill pertinent to the field of education. Topics may include, among others, correctional education, school and/or educational reform, charter schools, specialized alternative learning environments, residential settings, and urban education.

Examines various concepts, theories, and methods related to research in an educational setting. Students will review, analyze, and critique existing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research. Students will also develop and refine their educational writing through course assignments and completion of a comprehensive, professionally relevant literature review.

Allows students to gain authentic learning experiences related to their specialized area of administrative licensure from PDE. Students will be placed with a school or district leader that will serve as a mentor for projects and experiences that are aligned to the PDE approved guidelines and rubrics for school administrators.

Allows students to gain authentic learning experiences related to an area of concentration in their Mastern++s program as well the research and implementation of new structures, processes, or programs. Students will be placed within an agency or organization that would allow them to apply knowledge and skills learned in the program.

Presents an introduction to educational technology. The course focuses on instructional design, computer productivity tools, multimedia, web-based tools, apps, and many other current educational technology topics. The methodologies and materials used in the course are updated each semester according to current trends, practices, and research in the field of educational technology.

Introduces students to creating and using digital video as a technology tool to improve teaching and learning. Students will explore video and audio recording techniques and storyboarding to produce and edit their own instructional videos using current video and audio software.
