Focuses on various issues related to interpreting for specialized populations and situations. Populations that present unique challenges for sign language interpreters include Deaf individuals who have experienced language deprivation and the use of atypical language. Specialized situations including mental health, medical, legal, vocational rehabilitation settings, working in interpreting teams (Deaf and hearing), and performance/platform interpreting. This course will consist primarily of lectures, discussions, guest speakers, demonstrations, and role-plays.

Integrates interpreting skills previously developed in ASL365 Consecutive Interpreting. The students will be able to identify when to use ASL versus contact signing, incorporating strategies to clearly convey English content, and match the consumer's mode of communication or language preference during interactive interpreting settings. This course will consist primarily of lecture, discussion, guest speakers, interactive interpretation, and role-plays.

Discusses various factors of the interpreting profession in order to prepare students for their practicum and working conditions after graduation. Students will also begin their preparation for the national credentialing generalist knowledge examination.

6.00 Credits
Apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions during an interpreting placement with a mentor. Due to our accreditation under the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) the mentor must be a nationally certified interpreter or in the educational setting must have a 4.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment. The mentor will provide feedback and professional guidance to the interpreting student while getting hands-on experience interpreting in the field.

3.00 Credits
Introduces students to the origin, evolution, and physical properties of the planetary objects within the solar system, paying particular attention to their composition and dynamical properties, their relationships to each other, and prospects for extraterrestrial life. Emphasis will be placed on the results of recent and current exploratory space missions.

Provides a descriptive astronomy course concerning contemporary astronomical theories about the universe. Topics covered include terminology and science needed to study astronomy; formation and properties of stars, galaxies, and large-scale structures in the universe; modern cosmology; and space exploration.

Provides a descriptive introduction to astronomy and the broad array of objects comprising the Universe. Topics include planets, moons, the Sun and stars, black holes, galaxies, and cosmology. Intended primarily for non-science majors.

Provides athletic training students foundational knowledge in healthcare delivery systems, health education, communication, and emergency care. This course also focuses on identifying injury risk and preventing injury and illness.

Provides an in-depth analysis of the issues, policies, and procedures involved with the organization and administration of athletic training in various practice settings. This course evaluates allied health care professions, facility design, standard operating procedures, emergency action plans, budgeting, and health care services, as well as the organizations and documents that affect the profession of athletic training.

Analyzes the ever-changing factors that affect the athletic training profession. Students will evaluate continuing education options, analyze employment recruiting and retention practices, and review state and federal legislative efforts. Students will also be exposed to the associations and agencies that regulate the profession and the governing documents that they publish.
