Focuses on the theoretical basis of research methodology with emphasis on analyzing, critiquing, and interpreting nursing research. Development of a research proposal, based on an identified nursing problem, will aid in understanding use of research findings in evidence-based nursing practice.

8.00 Credits
Introduces students to nursing practice emphasizing assessment of basic needs of individuals and families and providing nursing care based on the nursing process. Integration of knowledge and application of critical thinking into the primary care of the individual with acute and chronic health problems across the lifespan is stressed. Students begin to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes/values, and abilities to achieve end-of-program student learning outcomes. This course includes a clinical component of 6 hours per week.

Focuses on the examination of the knowledge, skills, attitudes/values, and abilities required to provide safe, quality, patient-centered care to individuals with acute, chronic, and complex health problems across the lifespan as well as the unique health needs of the mother and newborn. Students will continue to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes/values, and abilities through learning experiences in various clinical settings with supervision.

Introduces students to the professionalism and professional values of nursing. Prepares nursing students to utilize the nursing process and clinical judgement model in implementing nursing skills and nursing technologies when caring for patients across the life-span. Professional concepts such as scope of practice; communication skills, legal; ethical, and professional issues; professional identity and resiliency; and patient safety are introduced through classroom and laboratory activities.

Introduces techniques and principles of health assessment for adult clients. Communication and interviewing skills are reinforced throughout the course, both patterns of adults are discussed, demonstration of health histories and practice of review of systems, and basic assessment skills will occur in the simulated learning laboratory.

Focuses on a field experience that allows the student to pursue a personal interest in an area of nursing, while focusing on patient-centered care, communication, safety, collaboration, teamwork and professionalism.

Focuses on pathophysiologic concepts and the pharmacologic management of selected disease processes throughout the lifespan. Students will explore foundational pharmacologic principles and their application to practice. Pathophysiologic disruptions will be examined and integrated with pharmacologic treatment related to specific disease processes.

2.00 Credits
Provides an introduction to the nutritional and clinical dietary principles and their role for the maintenance of optimal health and wellness for all individuals. Nutritional components of holistic nursing care including health promotion, nursing clinical practice, including assessment and communication, and medical therapeutic dietary modifications to treat diseases are addressed.

5.00 Credits
Focuses on the application of clinical judgment model to promote optimal levels of functioning of the adult and the older adult. Students apply knowledge and critical thinking to the care of the individual patients as they begin to assume the nursing roles of practitioner, teacher, leader/manager, and consumer of research. Students expand their knowledge and application of major nursing concepts as they provide healthcare to patients in the clinical setting.GC GC
