Provides a broad, systematic perspective on human functioning through analysis and comparison of models and theories of family health and family nursing. Concepts are then applied to the understanding and assessment of the stages of the normal life-cycle from a multi-cultural, multi-generational perspective upon which to base clinical practice. Students will apply family system concepts and methods related to health and illness faced by families including physical and/or mental health problems.

Focuses on culturally appropriate planning and preparation of anesthesia with emphasis on patients exhibiting more complicated pathophysiology, requiring additional sophisticated non-invasive and invasive monitoring. In-depth study of biochemical principles and biomechanics associated with these techniques for advanced nursing practice is presented.

This is a detailed study of the pharmacological principles of inhaled anesthetics, intravenous induction agents, intravenous anesthetics, local anesthetics, muscle relaxants, and clinically important reactions that may be exhibited as related to advanced nursing practice.

3.00 Credits
Prepares the advanced practice nurse for provision of comprehensive, quality, and cost effective primary care for older adults. Theories of physical aging, normal physical changes of aging, psychosocial needs, and the economic, political, socio-cultural, legal, and ethical issues of aging will be explored. Through both the theory component and clinical practicum the student will learn to recognize, evaluate, and manage geriatric syndromes prevalent in the older adult population. Atypical presentation of illness and clinical issues unique to frail older adults will also be explored.

Focuses on the development of advanced population health knowledge and collaborative practice skills to integrate theoretical and practice frameworks, when designing and implementing health promotion and prevention programs. Application of epidemiology, community assessment, critical thinking, communication skills, evidence-based population interventions to plan, implement, and evaluate preventative health programs are performed. Students function independently and collaboratively with other public health professionals and clients in diverse settings to develop innovative programs designed to meet health needs of populations and aggregates. A clinical practicum of 180 hours is required.

Applies managerial theories and concepts to nursing leadership in health care systems and patient experiences across multiple levels of care in a healthcare organization. Focuses on synthesizing and using managerial principles, organizational behavior, management information systems and financial accounting related to the ongoing transformation of healthcare delivery. The practicum experience within this course is the application of theoretical and practical knowledge for nurse leaders to enumerate the elements of leadership in contemporary, complex organizations.

Orients students to anesthesia clinical practice. Students will be provided with experiences in patient interview, assessment and evaluation, charting, monitoring selection, and familiarization with basic anesthesia equipment. Introduction and elaboration of basic chemical and physical principles.

4.00 Credits
Continues with the development of skills and knowledge related to nurse anesthesia. Through individually supervised instruction, the student utilizes the knowledge and skills related to anesthesia and advanced practice nursing in the delivery of patient care. Clinical case conferences will focus on the presentation of case studies and the discussion of patient outcomes. A journal club will be a component part of this clinical conference.

3.00 Credits
Provide students with a global perspective of transcultural health issues. Students will analyze the cultural, social, educational, economic, political, and environmental forces that contribute to health on an international level. Major cultural and ethnic determinants of health in developed and developing countries will be compared. Approaches used by diverse cultures in various countries in solving their health care problems will be addressed. Research on transcultural health issues will be examined. The role of major international health organizations dealing with cultural and ethical issues in world health will be evaluated.

Explores the role of the DNP in clinical practice. Provides opportunity for personal reflection and identification of clinical strengths and professional interests. Student examines best practice approaches and their consequences and begins to identify barriers that interfere with the delivery of equitable evidenced- based care in their population area. Introduction to the online learning platform and information research techniques.
