Explores the use of the nursing process with adult clients as they encounter actual and potential stressors along with the wellness-illness continuum. The clinical lab provides the student with opportunities to apply the nursing process at all levels of prevention and to observe various roles of the professional nurse within the health care system.

This course examines pathophysiological concepts of altered health states of selected body systems along with appropriate pharmacologic management and nursing implications. Includes basic principles of pharmacology; stress and adaptation; cell injury, aging and death; alterations in respiratory function, acid-base balance, fluids and electrolytes, renal function, the endocrine system, and the gastrointestinal system.

Designed to review current and evolving roles of home health, community and public health nurses. Health promotion, health teaching, economic, political, legal and ethical influences, environmental issues, epidemiology, communicable diseases and vulnerable populations are addressed. Focus is on the application and integration of health and wellness concepts.

A capstone nursing course with focus on leadership and management issues in health care. Seminars provide opportunities for students to share commonalities and unique aspects of their practical experiences in nursing. Concepts of nursing leadership and management will be examined through didactic course work, and a 45-hour practicum experience in a selected healthcare setting.

This course explores issues which affect rural health consumers and providers. Geographical, cultural, socioeconomic, and healthcare system challenges will be discussed. Identifying the needs of rural populations will assist students to understand the advocacy role of rural healthcare providers and design strategies to enhance the development of healthy rural communities.

This course explores health promotion, community assessment and disease prevention in diverse populations using epidemiological theories and multiple frameworks as a basis. Chronic and communicable disease incidence, at-risk populations, clinical interventions, and evidence-based practice will be investigated as it applies to nursing practice in the community.

This course includes health and illness concepts associated with care of individuals with acute, chronic and complex variations of mental health. There is an emphasis on individuals, families, groups and communities.

Focuses on the examination of philosophical and theoretical constructs related to role development in advanced nursing practice. Advanced Practice domains of clinical practice, teaching and coaching, consultation, intra and interprofessional collaboration, care coordination, conflict resolution, research, nursing theory, leadership, quality improvement advocacy, and ethical decision making are explored. The reciprocal interrelationships among theory, theoretical frameworks and conceptual models, practice domains, and research as integral components evidence-based advanced nursing practice, education and leadership are investigated

Provides conceptual orientation and knowledge of techniques from epidemiology as a basis for all aspects of population-based practice in advanced nursing. The epidemiological perspective presented as a framework for assessing the well-being of populations and designing, implementing, and evaluating strategic nursing and health care interventions. Students will apply basic epidemiologic research designs in the investigation, analysis, and proposed solutions to observed patterns of health status.
