    Focuses on the continued refinement of an evidence-based clinical project. The student obtains final departmental and IRB approval. Implementation of an approved clinical project utilizing current evidenced-based practice. Particular attention will be directed at the analysis and evaluation of the transformation of the student's practice. Course enhances student's ability to translate evidence-based research and clinical scholarship to decrease risk and improve patient outcomes.

    Study the anatomic structures and related physiochemical mechanisms governing neurologic, endocrine, hepatic, and renal function for advanced nursing practice in anesthesia. Students will be provided with leadership experiences with emphasis on the development of a practitioner who can assume an independent role in providing anesthesia care. Prerequisite:    NRS518 AND NRS523 AND NRS525 AND NRS535 AND NRS626 AND NRS637

    Introduces the student to nursing, person and health, which are basic concepts to the practice of nursing. Emphasis is placed on communicative and observational skills that permit the assessment of the basic needs of individuals and their families. The study of the human needs of individuals provides a foundation for inquiry into the nurse's role in providing nursing care based on the nursing process.

    This course introduces first-year students to the profession of nursing. The course has two separate goals: providing a basis for academic achievement and helping students develop skills necessary for professional success. Students learn about diversity issues, examine what it means to be a college student, explore what it means to be a professional, and develop strategies for success. Discussion of the importance of a strong liberal arts foundation as the basis of professional study is an integral part of the course. Professional concepts such as communication skills, basic medical language, legal, ethical, and professional issues are introduced. This course is for nursing majors only.

    An extension of NURS102: Nursing 2 and continues to increase the knowledge base of human needs with application of the nursing process to individuals and families with alterations in their level of health. Communication and health teaching are integrated as major strategies for assisting individuals and families to care for themselves in health and illness. This course focuses on levels of wellness and alterations in human needs relating to psychosocial, sexuality, oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange, love/belonging safety/security, and activity/rest. In addition, students will be spending 12 clinical hours each week outside of the structured course setting. Prerequisite:    NUR101 AND NUR102

    Examines the history of healthcare informatics, current issues, basic informatics concepts and health information management systems. The use of technology to help make decisions and to improve the health status of the individual, family, and community is emphasized. Students will apply informatics concepts to a current clinical practice setting suggesting methods to use technology to improve patient safety and work effectiveness. The student will also learn to identify, gather, process, and manage information/data.

    Examines the conceptual models and theoretical frameworks of nursing to encourage the student to critique, compare, and evaluate nursing theory in current nursing practice.

    Focused on identification and demonstration of assessment techniques with emphasis on normal and abnormal findings throughout the life span. Learning experiences provide for development of a systematic approach to physical assessment of patients to facilitate integration of assessment findings and major health deviations. Principles of therapeutic communication will be emphasized as an adjunct to performing a health assessment.

    Focuses on examining pharmacotherapeutic agents used in the treatment of illness, health promotion, maintenance and restoration of wellness. Emphasis is placed on drug therapy integrating the use of the nursing process in pharmacokinetics, safe medication administration, and monitoring.

    This course provides a theory and skills foundation for professional nursing, and the role of the professional nurse is explored. The Nursing process, health care needs of individuals, and health physical assessment are central concepts. The history of nursing and the laboratory component concentrate on acquisition of professional nursing skills. Prerequisite:    BSC1121 AND BSC1122
