Introduces students to professional audio recording techniques and practices. Topics include writing for audio, creative choices, professional hardware and software, and the application of those skills to digital audio recording. Students will produce audio recordings suitable for transmission through radio, streaming or other avenues.

Introduces the theory and practice of photojournalism. Topics include covering news, features, sports, portraits, photo stories, lighting, ethics and history. Students will use digital technology to complete a series of photojournalistic assignments suitable for publication.

Provides instruction related to all elements of in-studio television production. Topics include pre-production, production and post production of in-studio shows. Students develop skills in producing and directing, in-studio and control room crew positions, lighting techniques and design, and on-camera talent.

Provides students with skills in intermediate digital video postproduction editing. Topics include the aesthetics and techniques of editing, application of editing techniques, the video signal and components, and the role of the editor. Students will be prepared for non-linear editing certification upon successful completion of the course.

Develops techniques of voice use desirable for radio, television, and sound reinforcement systems. Topics include coordinating the speaking voice with the meaning, the syntax and implications of the textual material and the challenges public voices face. Students will participate as vocal talent through radio, TV or other public address events.

Examines structures and functions of communication in and between organizations. Topics include theoretical and applied perspectives, with emphasis on mindfulness in networks of interactive social systems, group dynamics, leadership, conflict, negotiation, consulting, training, public relations, and strategic communication.

Examines crisis management for application in institutional and organizational contexts. Topics include planning, development, and execution of crisis management plans including risk assessment, media relationships, and image restoration. Students develop competencies for navigating crisis response strategies.

Examines the practice of public relations and its role in our global society. Topics include program planning and evaluation, ethics, working with the media, and writing for PR. The principles of PR will be applied to corporations, governmental institutions, and non-profit organizations. Students will gain an understanding of PR career paths.

Topics include historical background, processes, planning, and implementation, media strategies, creative development and international issues. Students will practice skills in writing, critical thinking and communication.

This course employs specific communication strategies, such as targeting media and audiences with ethical and diversity considerations. Students will plan, implement and evaluate a promotional event.
