Overview of a wide range of assistive technology(AT) for individuals with mild to severe disabilities. Students will learn about the use of the devices, definition of AT, legal mandates of AT, identification of funding resources, how to assess assistive technology needs, how to integrate AT in the IEP, and how to deliver online instruction.

This course addresses positive behavior support strategies and trauma-informed practices for managing student behaviors. Students will learn universal strategies for all students, targeted strategies for students at-risk of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, and intensive interventions for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders.

This course deals with special education programs for senior high school students as well as those persons who reside in the community. Emphasis is placed on vocational preparation and training. Specific techniques for task analysis of jobs, daily living skills, and social adaptation constitute a major portion of this course.

It involves identifying, designing, and implementing evidence based practices and strategies to facilitate student success as well as determining their effectiveness. This course examines the process of developing Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) for exceptional students, and provides supervised practice in completing state IEP forms. It presents best practice for collaborating with all members of the IEP team and emphasizes the role of the family. Field Experience is an Instructional Project.

Evidence-Based Practices for K-12 Inclusion is offered to K-12 majors the semester prior to their student teaching experience and is a methodology course for pre-service education teachers. The purpose of the course is to prepare pre- service teachers to provide evidence-based language arts and math instruction to students with high and low incidence disabilities in inclusion settings. An emphasis is placed on results of research and proven methods of instruction for teaching reading and math to students with cognitive, physical, social, behavioral, and language-based disabilities. The course stresses a behavioral approach to teaching, as well as the development and implementation of intervention strategies for various populations of students with exceptionalities in inclusion settings. Additional topics include modifications and adaptations of materials, effective teaching, learning strategies, lesson planning, assessment, and individualized education programs.
