Students will conduct, analyze, write-up, and present a research project in psychology under the supervision of a faculty member.

Students work in agencies under a cooperating professional and university supervisor, meeting regularly to discuss ethics and issues raised in professional practice.

This course provides practical observation and experiences for the student in an approved human services agency or facility where psychological principles and techniques are used. Students are graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.

This course is an overview of the discipline of physical therapy and the role and function of the PTA within the physical therapist - physical therapist assistant team. Topics include common interventions and data assessment for physical therapy. Applied discipline-based social science knowledge and methods are also included.

Course provides an introduction to basic physical therapy patient care procedures in a laboratory format. Topics include body mechanics, positioning and draping, vital signs, basic exercise, transfer activities, wheelchair features and activities, ambulation aids and gait/stair training, infection control, data collection, MMT, and goniometry.

This course examines the disease process on the cellular, histological, and systemic levels. Particular emphasis is placed upon those pathologies commonly encountered by the physical therapist assistant in pediatric, geriatric, orthopedic, and neurological impairments.

This course is an examination of the legal, ethical and professional aspects of a career in physical therapy. Important issues such as liability, malpractice, proactive acts, and reimbursement are discussed. Special attention is focused on the importance of research and preparation for the PTA National Physical Therapy Examination.

An examination of the anatomy, pathology, and pathophysiology of cardiovascular, respiratory, hematologic, lymphatic, and renal and urological systems. Based on the plan of care established by the physical therapist, students will apply current knowledge, theory, and clinical judgement. The laboratory emphasizes data collection and interventions.

This course examines the etiology, signs, and symptoms and effects of pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Development of patient goals and physical therapy interventions for specific neurological disorders are included. Specific treatment procedures are learned and practiced in the laboratory setting.

This course guides the physical therapist assistant student under direction of a physical therapist from fundamentals and theory through practice in orthopedic rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on rehabilitation for all major joints to reduce pain and swelling, increase motion and strength, enhance balance and proprioception, and restore function.
