This course focuses on the application of psychology in businesses and organizations and is an introduction to the field of Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology. Topics include the hiring process, methods of assessing employee performance, employee attitudes and motivation, leadership and teams, and stress and health in the workplace.

What is happiness? How can we achieve happiness? This course is an exploration of the new area of positive psychology which is concerned with using science to discover the factors which make like meaningful, create happiness, and enable individuals and communities to thrive. Positive psychologists see happiness as a skill which can be studied, taught and learned. This course will look at evidence from the biological, cognitive, social, and clinical areas of psychology in order to understand happiness, with the aim of using what we learn to improve our own lives.

This course reviews major psychological theories of personality including psychodynamic, trait, behavioral, and humanistic theories. Each theory's major concepts are discussed, along with how the theory explains normal and maladjusted personality development. Theories are compared, evaluated, and applied to everyday and clinical examples.

This course reviews major theories of psychotherapy and will analyze each theory's basic concepts, goals, and techniques, including how they influence the practice of psychotherapy. Factors relevant to all psychotherapies, such as the importance of ethics, the therapeutic relationship, and basic helping skills, are discussed.

This course introduces students to basic psychotherapeutic methods and skills, such as listening skills, relationship building, and ethics. Students will practice communication skills with peers under supervision.

This course addresses both the theory and practice of psychological assessment. Fundamental psychometric principles will be emphasized, along with applied uses of testing, such as intellectual assessment, and objective and projective personality testing.

This course examines the impact of trauma and traumatic stress on children, adolescents, and families. Theoretical foundations, current research and literature, and developmental considerations of traumatic stress's impact on developing children are explored. Evidence-based treatments for childhood traumatic stress will be reviewed.

This course presents the major theories of substance use. The development and structure of substance use will be addressed. The characteristics of the normal and maladjusted personality are identified, with special concern for developmental patterns associated with substance use and addiction. Students will engage in clinical, practical, and experiential exercises that are designed to be exciting and challenging.

This course introduces students to the structure and process of group psychotherapy, the developmental process of group psychotherapy, and theoretical models of group work. Broader issues, such as the characteristics of effective group facilitators, micro-skills for group work, and ethical issues are also discussed.

This course examines the mental processes and activities humans use in perceiving, recognizing, remembering, and understanding information, sometimes called "higher mental processes." Cognitive Psychology explores how humans acquire, store, transform and use knowledge to navigate our world of thought and action.
