This course describes and synthesizes the current knowledge about the psychological development of children, which includes cognitive, emotional, and social developmental factors from conception through adolescence. Using psychological research, multiple theoretical frameworks for understanding development will be examined.

This course examines the psychological impact of the continuing life processes that occur during early, middle, and late adulthood. Theoretical frameworks of adulthood and aging, and the strengths and weaknesses of developmental research, will be reviewed. The aging process is viewed as a continuation of the life cycle as opposed to an end-stage.

This course examines the psychological factors that help individuals develop and maintain healthy behaviors and that affect the course and treatment of illnesses. Contemporary research strategies used to understand health promotion, disease prevention, and management of illness are reviewed.

This course surveys the most common behavior disorders across the lifespan including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, substance-related disorders, and schizophrenia. Ethical issues, sociocultural factors, diagnoses, causes, and treatment will be considered.

This course provides an overview of current theory and research in the field of sex research. Emphasis is placed on the importance of psychological theory in understanding aspects of sexual behavior while recognizing the wide range of influences (i.e., cultural, biological & evolutionary processes).

This course explores how gender roles develop and how gender influences our daily lives. Aspects of life experience where gender plays an important role - including education, occupations, physical and mental health, politics, religion and the media - are discussed. Multicultural and cross-cultural perspectives are integrated throughout.

This course presents the psychological principles shaping the personality of Black people. Includes a critique of "traditional" psychology, racial myths, discriminatory thinking and behavior. The analysis of attitudes and behaviors which develop in prejudicial socio-economic, educational and political systems are examined.

This course provides an overview of psychology's various roles in the civil and criminal justice systems, using a research-based focus on the application of psychology in the legal system. Topics explored include eyewitness testimony, criminal profiling, juries, discrimination, and family law. Current problems and practices will be presented.

This course introduces the psychological approach towards understanding and increasing creativity. Includes scientific techniques used to measure creativity, as well as practical applications of theories and research findings. Includes examples of creativity from different domains, including everyday problem solving, arts, and sciences.

This course introduces students to applied sport and exercise psychology. Students study concepts and theories related to sport and exercise psychology, and practice applying this knowledge. Topics include youth sports, motivation, peak performance, and psychological strategies used to improve performance.
