This course examines the disease process on the system level as well as specific needs of physically active individuals considered a special population or with known disabilities. Special emphasis is placed upon pathologies commonly encountered in the ambulatory care setting. Students will also investigate the basic concept of disease.

First Aid and Personal Safety is a course designed to convey information to understand the cause-effect, prevention and treatment of emergency situations. Two year certification if offered by the American Heart Association.

This course entails the study of basic concepts of nutrition and the effects of sound nutritional practices on everyday life and sports. The course is designed to allow students to apply nutritional concepts, thus enhancing athletic performance.

This course introduces the learner to complementary and alternative medicine (CAAM) treatments and therapies, covering a broad range of healing philosophies. Topics include but are not limited to: traditional Chinese medicine, aroma therapy, chiropractic, reflexology, herbal medicine, etc. The role of the naturopathic physician will be explored.

Students will identify different types of research, particularly descriptive, experimental, and evidence- based. Emphasis is placed on developing library research skills, critically analyzing research, and becoming a knowledgeable consumer of research in order to apply it in a variety of allied health professions.

Each course will focus on a topic of instructor's choice that explores processes, components, and dynamics of the natural world and/or use of technology to change or control that world and alter the human condition. Disciplinary approaches may include but not limited to: biology, chemistry, geology, physics, mathematics or environmental science.

Each course will focus on a topic of the instructor's choice that explores the components, processes, development, dynamics and/or impacts of individual & collective human behavior. The topic may be explored through topics including: political science, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, anthropology, communication studies, and economics.

Each class will focus on a topic selected by the instructor. Questions of human values, beliefs, culture, experience and creative expression will be explored via that topic. Media may include a combination of any of, but not limited to: literature, history, the fine arts, creative writing, photography, the graphic arts, music, theatre, and film.

1.00 - 9.00 Credits
This course creates an opportunity for an honors student to work independently on a research or creative project, with guidance from a faculty member. The student and faculty member will meet ahead of time to determine the scope of the course and the number of credits.

3.00 Credits
The senior Honors thesis project serves as the culmination of a student's work in the Honors Program. Under the supervision of a faculty advisor and committee of the student's choosing, the Honors student seeks to make a contribution to their discipline that supplements the student's departmental expectations.
