This course, providing experience in elementary, middle, and secondary schools, includes participation in teaching and other activities of the teacher. It emphasizes practical experience in aiding children to develop knowledge, skills, and appreciations regarded as essential to democratic society. Students may enroll in HLPE 4950 for six semester credit hours only under extenuating circumstances and with permission of the chairperson of the Health and Physical Education Department and the dean of the School of Education.

This course studies the structure and function of the human body for those majors in Allied Health and diploma school of nursing. Beginning at the sub-cellular level and progressing to the organ systems, the course includes the integumentary, cardiovascular, lymphatic, gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems.

The current health framework encompasses topics such as basic fitness and nutrition, the prevention of disease, as well as a focus on healthful living.

This course studies the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal structure and functions of the human body for those majors in Allied Health and diploma school of nursing. The course takes a systematic approach to the study of the bones, joints, muscles and nerves. Laboratory experiences include hands-on palpation needed for clincial application.

This course provides the students associated with PennWest an overview of the profession of athletic training and an introduction to basic knowledge and skills utilized within the profession. Student will be provided with the basic concepts and skills related to the current domains of the athletic training profession including hands-on skills.

This introductory course explores the complexities of health strategies to improve the health of communities. Learners explore community and public health theories and principles useful for delivery of health care for all. Learners will examine current delivery systems in the U.S. and be introduced to the major areas of public health.

Students will gain an understanding of basic elements, rules of building and analyzing medical words, and medical terms associated with the body as a whole. Using a systems-approach, they will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to structure and function, pathology, diagnosis, and clinical procedures, oncology, and pharmacology.

This introductory course is designed to provide learners with a basic understanding of nutritional principles including the energy metabolism, ingestion, absorption, and transport of nutrients. The course will provide information on the role of macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients. Weight management and nutrition throughout the lifespan included.

Kinesiology utilizes principles of biomechanics, musculoskeletal anatomy, and neuromuscular physiology. This course will prepare students to analyze movement in order to correct movement abnormalities for clients/patients as well as rehabilitate and improve human performance.
